During our presentation this week we were cut short but this did not detract from delivering the final message and we were able to pitch the

Reporting

During this week we achieved the following tasks during class

  • Ensured that google calendar was updated with required hours blocked out for work this week

  • Spent 5 hours large amount of time listening to reference tracks on Tuesday

  • Wednesday 5 hours writing up the project plan

  • Attended 1 hour Ableton tutorial held by Quinn our fellow classmate on Thursday

  • Thursday Spent up to 2 hours writing up Project Plan 1.

  • Friday we spent 3 hours session and trained in the Neve studio

  • 2 hours to research and created criteria sheet for the track tear down

  • 2 hours recording foley sounds for market place at my friends house in the country who had chickens and a few other assorted animals like goats

Relating

Working on the google calendar was familiar to me since I also have a working habit already to block out times during my weekly schedule for learning and university lecturer hours. I also did this in my previous career and found it to be useful in getting more time for other activities.

Project 1 Plan using Gannt

I found that spending a good deal of time listening to reference material really allow us to hone in on the right material.

Writing the report took longer than expected but by the time I was finished researching and writing up the project plan I realised that I was nearly finished and needed to clarify some of the sections with the lecturers. writing these plans are useful when planning a large scale project in the Audio field when involving more than one person. The project plan aligns the groups mission and goals and also helps manages the expectations of the each stakeholder and holds them all accountable to certain deliverable's throughout the life of the project.

On Wednesday I was taught by Quinn a fellow audio student on how to create a simple beat and chord progression. This type of teaching a learning is prevalent in industry when a more experienced co-worker is tasked in training a newcomer. I was once a trainer in another field and this allowed me to feel that I was being trained again in the audio field.

The Friday was a great learning experience as we were taught by Akshay our Audio course coordinator, on the fundamentals of using the Neve console. This was a very informative and useful session and I related the near identical signal flow to that of the Audient desks that we trained on in trimester 1.

The track tear down exercise I believe was very useful to me and relating to my field in audio this helped me understand the technical aspects when analysing music. Through research a set of fundamental critical aspects can turn a subject decision if a track is good to a more quantitative approach.

Live sound recording

Stick a Zoom H4n at your turkeys!

On Sunday my team member and i traveled to a friends house where they reared chickens, goats and few other poultry. We spent two hours to track and record the sounds with our Zoom H6 and my Zoom H4 recorders. We learnt from the experience how we can use location sound equipment is different to tracking sounds in the studio and that we had to account for wind and other elements like removing the goats away by feeding them in another side of the shed.

Reasoning

Reconstructing

After looking at the points in things that I did during this week if I could change one thing that would be how many hours I spend in writing the report. The reason being that I feel that I have spent too much time in researching and writing a bit too much in content when the question really only asked for a simple plan. I also would have liked to plan more training videos regarding Ableton in the future weeks so that I can get myself more up to speed with the new music creation software.
