Creating a HUD sound is a an art form in it self and there is absolutely no right or wrong way for making an electronic notification sound for your HUD. That said it must be able to punch through and make the player hear it over the cacophony of music, SFX, Foley, that will ensure while either in combat play or high intensity action.
