Conducting Sitzprobe and gathering band and actor info

This was the first rehearsal and we were not given any band information or actor information so this is where I had to think fast on our feet and start gathering information. I had to talk with the Play Director to ask what characters needed to be mic'd and found that they were still working it out on stage. In their eyes, everyone was to be mic'd and this was not feasible so I had to work with the limited packs to make sure all the main cast had mic's when they needed.

After Connors class in week 6, I was able to utilize stage plot sketching format that was taught and quickly drafted a stage plot. Then I went further to fully map a finalized version and found that this helped immensely when communicating with musicians.

In bigger productions usually this information is given to us via a tech rider but for small productions like this small theater group we had to make do. I learnt a great deal in terms of talking with people and working with musicians in getting the best sound from the band in general.

Thursday

  • Connor took us the zoo night club in the Valley and showed us how a real live gig is plugged in and also what board is used in the location.

Friday

  • Applied live sound knowledge and practice with Live event at Magpies Christmas in July event

  • They wanted to mic up a choir, Keyboard player and a solo flutist and MC.

Sunday

  • Applied Learnt theory in live sound to production practiced on the Behringer x32

After seeing drafting the location we repatched all the wires and cables and labeled them as per industry standard.

Do any of the events or learning material relate to my profession?

Is there an academic or scientific explanation and what are the lessons learned?

If given the chance how would I respond or approach this week?
